Modern Languages

We aim to promote an interest in, and awareness of, the languages and culture of other countries, and in particular French- and German-speaking nations throughout the world. Language trips undertaken during the year include the German exchange to Bingen, a French exchange to Brittany and a Year 8 trip to Le Touquet.

All students entering the school begin with either French or German: students joining the school in September 2017 will start with German. Most will take up the second language in Year 8 and study both of them in Years 8 and 9.

Most students continue with one language to GCSE although some may wish to carry on with both languages. We also run a two-year GCSE Spanish course from scratch, starting in Year 10. Students take the AQA exam-based course in all languages.

Both French and German are offered at AS and A Level.
