About The School

Bartholomew School is a mixed comprehensive school that offers an excellent and exciting educational environment for 1000 students aged 11-18.  There has been a school in Eynsham since the original school was founded by John Bartholomew in 1704.  The new school was founded in 1958 and, since that time, we have seen the development and expansion of educational opportunities for the young people of the area. In 2008 we had a particularly exciting year as we celebrated the 304th and 50th birthdays of the school, as well as the 40th birthday of Eynsham Primary, one of our lead partner schools, with a varied programme of very exciting events that really engaged and enthused our community.

The School is justly proud of its successes that are built upon the efforts of a hard-working and enthusiastic staff, well-motivated students and very supportive parents and governors.  We have an excellent academic record which has been recognised by the government awarding us High Performing Specialist School status.  This added a second specialism, the Thinking Voice programme, to our original specialist Technology College status, to help us raise student attainment.

Our examination results have been consistently excellent, and at the top in Oxfordshire for many years. It is equally delightful seeing our students gaining success in the widest range of activities and recognising the sheer quality of the young people who leave our school as mature and confident young adults.  Our curriculum is enhanced by the wide variety of extracurricular and other educational experiences we offer to each student during their time with us.  The quality of the pastoral care we provide for our students is exemplary and is seen as a model of good practice throughout the County.

Bartholomew School is also a focus for wider community educational activities.  We have a firm foundation as a community school, working closely with the Youth Centre on site to extend the learning opportunities available to adults under the guidance of a community worker.  In addition, we work closely with the Eynsham Partnership that includes all our feeder primary schools, to generate better educational programmes for our young people, as well as improving our transition activities for students who will be coming up to Bartholomew.

We value highly all contacts with parents since we see a successful education being a partnership between the parents, students and the School.  By working together, we will be able to achieve our main aim of ensuring that all who come to Bartholomew School will find it a challenging, stimulating, caring and enjoyable learning environment where their achievements will be celebrated and their attainment maximised.

In order to achieve our aims, we maintain an ordered, positive and purposeful atmosphere so that when our students leave they will have enjoyed their time at Bartholomew School, having experienced academic and social success in a caring academic environment enriched by a varied range of extracurricular activities.

We hope that the information provided in this website and our prospectus, which can be downloaded from this page, will give you a clear impression of this successful, forward-looking and welcoming school. If you require any further details or additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at the School.
