Extended Services

Extended Services… Extended Schools

Schools are being asked to take a lead role in delivering the Government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ goals, improving outcomes and raising standards of achievement for the benefit of all children and young people:

- Be healthy

- Stay safe

- Enjoy and achieve

- Make a positive contribution

- Achieve economic well-being

In support of this agenda, Extended Schools provide a range of services outside school hours for primary and secondary school age children, their families and the local community. These include childcare, activities and support for learning.

Through the Eynsham partnership of schools, your local schools are combining efforts to meet these new demands. We are consulting locally on what is needed and will be working jointly where possible to develop services. Later in 2009 we will be consulting parents on this issue, as well as students, health services, youth service, childcare providers, social care providers, local councils and others.

Schools often work in partnership with other local services, to deliver a range of services including:

- A varied menu of activities (including study support, play/recreation, sport, music, arts and crafts and other special interest clubs, volunteering and business and enterprise activities), in a safe place, for primary and secondary schools

- Childcare 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, 48 weeks a year for primary schools

- Parenting support including family learning

- Swift and easy access to targeted and specialist services such as speech and language therapy

- Community access to facilities including adult learning, ICT and sports facilities.

Bartholomew School and local Primary Schools aim to embed extended school practice within strategic planning, to help raise achievement and to meet the needs and aspirations of pupils, parents, families and the wider community.
