Physical Education
The main aims of the PE department include the development of:
Physical abilities and the acquisition of techniques and skills.
Sound personal attitudes and social qualities.
An awareness of the importance of health, fitness, hygiene, safety and the acquisition of a sense of enjoyment and achievement within sport.
The West Oxfordshire Sports Leaders course is on offer in Year 11, whilst Year 12 students can follow the Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA), which is a nationally recognised award intended to develop confidence and leadership skills in recreational activities.
Key Stage 3
The games in Years 7 and 8 are seasonal and include Rugby, Association Football, Hockey, Netball, Cricket , Softball and Rounders. Students also follow courses in Gymnastics, Basketball, Fitness, Dance and Orienteering. The Summer Term includes Athletics and Tennis. Seasonal games are continued in Year 9 and 10, but students have the opportunity to pursue courses Badminton, Trampolining and Volleyball.
Key Stage 4
There is a two-year full course Edexcel GCSE examination offered in Years 10 and 11, which is 60% practical and 40% theory. Those students in Year 10 not taking the full course will follow the short course; the exam at the end of this course is optional and, if taken, equates to half a GCSE. This course covers both theory and practical elements.
Key Stage 5
AS/A2 Level AQA Physical Education is offered which is 60% theory and 40% practical.
