Barts Xtra Highlights

Posted on: 26/02/2021

So many wonderful activities have taken place via our extracurricular portal, Barts Xtra. There is something for everyone across all year groups and the content is updated weekly on a Friday so please keep checking back.

Guest Speaker George Sawyer

On Thursday 25th February we welcomed the lovely George Sawyer as our Guest Speaker, and special thanks go to Miss Lowdon for arranging this. George is multi-talented and famed for his work with TV shows such as Horrible Histories, SO Beano!, Gigglebiz, Dick and Dom, Me & My Monsters and The Ministry of Curious Stuff, to name but a few.

We are very grateful and honoured that George, who is currently very busy Directing ‘The Brilliant World of Tom Gates’ for TV, gave up his time to share some insights into the processes involved in creating this series. He talked us through his career journey, from his first role as a runner, making tea for everyone in the team, through to his first break as a writer and having a go at lots of different roles and beingGeorgesawyer guestspeaker billgates 25032021 nominated for prestigious awards and working with an envious list of people along the way.  Importantly, he showed students the importance of being a good person, teamwork, dealing with setbacks positively - and we especially liked his advice to, “put the energy of things you are driven to do into things you are given to do”.

All in all an inspirational and unforgettable hour, and we wouldn’t be surprised if some students look back on this as being a pivotal moment when they go on to amazing careers in the media; watch this space!

Virtual Choir

Mrs Willett has been running a Bartholomew Virtual Choir on a Thursday after school for staff and students. Here are their first offerings, which we hope you enjoy!
